Open air and Christmas theatre in Winchelsea

Every year, in August, the Rain Or Shine Theatre, one of the best touring companies in the country, perform outdoors in Winchelsea. Why not join us? Bring a picnic, sit back and be entertained.

Rain Or Shine usually perform Shakespeare but in 2010 took a break and performed "The Importance of Being Earnest", Oscar Wilde's classic comedy of manners, morals and morality. In 2011, the company returned to the Bard with the classic comedy "Much Ado About Nothing" and, in 2012, "Ask You Like It". The 2013 production was "The Comedy of Errors". In 2014, the Bard will be taking another rest and we will be off to Robert Louis Stevenson's "Treasure Island"

Much Ado About Nothing 2011

In December, Rain Or Shine usually return to Winchelsea to perform a Christmas play in the evocative setting of the Church of St Thomas the Martyr. They staged Dickens' "A Christmas Carol" in 2009, Wilde's "Canterville Ghost" in 2010 and "Wind in the Willows" in 2012.

  • In 2013, tickets cost £13.50 for adults and £6 for under-16s. This may change in 2014. You will not be bothered with raffles or other fund-raising. All the proceeds go to Winchelsea Bonfire Boyes.

  • Bring your own seating. We also suggest a rug and fleece for the second half (the hotter the day, the colder the evening feels).
